The Chicago Red-Eye (published by Chicago Tribune), the paper where the article appeared, only published exactly what I copied in the original post. It was one of those short "blurbs" that they publish when talking about 'random' stories from around the world.
If you recall, I was one who argued that a human would NOT be able to survive a cheetah attack. Given that this attack took place in a non-wild location (a "wildlife sanctuary", whatever that means), I said this didn't necessarily prove the truth...I just felt, as a former student of quality journalism, that the story should be exposed, even if it goes against what I argue. Perhaps the conversation should resume...
In researching this some more, some accounts of the incident say that other humans intervened after the woman was getting dominated for a while and that they were able to pull her out and get her to the hospital. Perhaps if she really was in the wild with no help (aka no other humans/modern medicine) then she wouldn't have survived?
Whatever the case, as Mr. Suozzi stated, Mr. Devitt would have put up a nice fight if he were facing the cheetah(s). At least I would have bought it on Pay Per View.
